Life is busy. Schedules get hectic, which leads many of us to drop things from our lives that we might really enjoy, but don’t necessarily see as “essential” or “important” — like painting, writing, kayaking, boxing, etc. The only “release valves” we might have, in an otherwise stressful and challenging day or week.
But if you only remove the release valves, are you really lightening your load? Certainly not by any *significant* amount, and I’d even go as far as to say you’re likely weakening your overall capacity by removing these things. Think about that.
In reality, we need these things. We need activities that can decompress and clear our minds — so that when we do have important or essential tasks, we are refueled and ready to tackle them with no holds barred. We can run harder and go the distance.
Make time for the things that truly bring you joy. That actually siphon that stress.
Not only does it make life more enjoyable, but it also makes you stronger.
