Thoughts of the Week: September 29, 2023
Being a first mover is the best advantage you can give yourself.
The value of being an original over replication cannot be overstated — it goes against everything you’ll see in society — but it applies to both what you do and how you do it.
Here’s The What:
What makes you stand out? Every marketplace is saturated with imitations and “dupes.” The same thing, the same way, and the same ideas.
You’ve seen it everywhere — from online to your local pizza shop or the accounting firm you forgot the name of — because they’re all the same. Identifying uncharted territory within your craft and creating something truly novel, something others may try to imitate, can set you apart and make you or your business memorable.
So, how can you be different? Imitation is easy, but blending in keeps you mid-pack. There is nothing distinctive about the ordinary.
Now let’s talk about The How:
You can do a job everyone else does in a way that is all your own. What works for someone else, no matter how successful it’s made them, has no guarantee of working for you. In fact, it may just hold you back.
Instead? Start looking toward what you naturally shine at, where you’re naturally pulled to, and create your Midas Touch by doing what feels right to you.
Thanks for sharing this! Success doesn't come from mimicking what others have done but from leaning into your own strenghts - great post! :)
Excellent, as always, and practical (able to quickly apply these ideas in real life) - - thank you, Dr. Gurner!
