If you take the time to look around, comprehensively, do you have the life you want?
Your work is a part of that life…a consumptive part. But I often get asked (and my DMs are filled) about things that the ambitious person wants to compliment their work. People who ask about dating, about their relationships with their spouse/children, or about feeling jailed by the work-life they’ve created…one that leaves very little time for anything else.
The point of wealth, after all, is optionality.
I work with several people who are still refining the personal side of their lives. They’re figuring out who they want to be and what life they want to build outside of their incredibly demanding work. On the other hand, I also work with a few people who seem to have it all together. They’ve fulfilled their ambitions, have successful relationships, and still find the time for things they enjoy.
Whether the life you want includes a relationship, certain goals or hobbies, living in a specific location, or how you spend your time outside of work — regret is a soul killer, so don’t put these things off until it’s too late.
You don’t need to sacrifice your ambitions, but you do need a strategy, so let’s talk brass tacks about how the ultra-successful get — and keep — the things that matter most…without taking your foot off the gas.
