This is a test.
I want you to look at yourself today, and see if it is how you would want to show up in the world. Look at your clothing. Your accessories. Your haircut or style. Is this reflective of who you are?
It’s a superficial thing, right? It is, but this is just an easy example. How we show up in the world encompasses far more than this. How we look in the mirror often does not reflect who we truly know ourselves to be. It’s an easy place where many don’t line up the external with the internal. You throw on a shirt, do the bare minimum, and move out the door…but inside, there is likely a far different story. A different you.
You aren’t a sloppy person, and you likely care more about the details in business than anyone — but if someone were to watch you walk down the street, they’d never guess it.
Most people do this with far more important things too, and those are the things I want to talk about. What you keep under the hood, how you’ve learned to operate, and why. Are you an absolute beast who presents like a blunted version of what you really contain? You can change that…and you should.
People who are in the mid to later stages in their careers and businesses often ignore the very things that would line up who they are in the larger world, and it slows progress. It’s due to something we’ll discuss as “The Builder’s Dilemma.” After years of seeing this in the wild, let’s put a spotlight on something most ignore — and talk about how to show up as who you really are — for the sake of your company, and your future.
