The most effective leaders I work with do not spend the majority of their time reacting to the needs of their business. They lead it from the front; they are moving fast, and pulling the business behind them to where they’re going.
They know where they’re going, and what they want to create, and are actively blazing the ground ahead. They are proactive, they carry a strong vision, and they are pacesetters.
As easy as it is to get into the mode of reactionary leadership or operation, staying there will actively put you behind. If you are reacting, you are not able to actively push ahead…so you have to move away from a place of feeling that you are “barely keeping up” or have “too much to do,” to actively break new ground.
In the competitive landscape, the truth is that keeping pace is falling behind...and that’s how most people exist in their work: mediocre and in the middle.
Becoming a pacesetter transforms any position you’re in and any business you own because it establishes a dominant position out front. It’s gutsy, it moves the conversation (and sometimes the industry) forward.
