I’m sure you’ve seen it watching the Olympics and in business, you’ll also see it with masters of turnaround. Carlos Ghosn, for example, despite his legacy, turned Renault around. They went from billions in debt to a healthy profit in just a couple of years after he arrived — completely reorganizing production and making significant and risky cuts. One reporter stated that when he arrived, “He was so sure of success. Failure didn’t even occur to him.”
Big positions. Big opportunities. Big challenges.
We all have moments that are high pressure and high stakes, but most people don’t know how to prepare for these psychologically…let alone in a way that will facilitate the best possible outcomes.
People who are expected to perform at peak levels while under stress have to operate from a sound psychological space, and the best way to find that space is by correctly setting yourself up for these high-stress moments.
