“It’s just business,” one of my clients said, “I don’t understand why they get so upset about it.”
One thing I’ve noticed is that almost every high performer I work with doesn’t really take things personally, and they’ve had this pattern for *so long* that they are genuinely surprised when others do—when receiving feedback, comments on work, or just directions.
They’ve taken so many hits, had a number of things not work out, heard so much feedback (some of which wasn’t positive), and had so little support at times that they’ve developed very “slick skin.” Things just seem to roll off of them…and they assume that happens with everyone.

The ultra successful don’t take most things personally—at least not for long—and it’s a phenomenal unlock for moving their careers and companies forward.
