That was awesome, and SUCH a great rebuttal to those colloquialisms that tamp down my drive.
Related: do you have any talks on communication with loved ones who aren’t ambitious? I feel like it’s dangerous for me to open up about my goals because their comments get into my subconscious and impact me in ways I don’t love. They seem to think my success is magical and not the result of hard work, and i’ve found after talking to them I start believing I don’t have to work as hard, too.
I'm a very big fan of keeping things "positive, superficial and brief" for those who you expect aren't on board...why give them fuel or argue?
I don't take the stand that convincing people is a solid way to operate. Just do your thing, and they'll get curious enough seeing the results...and it often turns them into believers later.
This concept reminds me of Jim Rohn's suggestion that every habit effects every other habit. When you start slacking in one area, it tends to bleed into other areas, too.
This is a concept I haven't heard discussed much in Executive Coaching or in leadership development- one thing I think a "playing every point" mindset ensures is a clear criterion for what points are worth playing. If you can't bring this mindset or don't think the task you're engaging in is worthy of it, then is it really a point you should be playing? Excited to integrate this as the week builds, no winding down over here ;),
