"If someone makes everything complex, they can't stay in my org. It just makes everything a nightmare." - CEO, former client.

I see this all the time, in different words from different people. The more I work with high achievers, the more I realize that complexity is almost always something that repels them - often because it has caused their careers or organizations problems in the past.

  • They don’t carry complexity in their own style of operation…

  • They see it as an indication of bad strategies, bad hires, and bad execution in others.

Complexity is a red flag. Correct it immediately.

Complexity is messy…but it’s *easy*. Building and maintaining simplicity is the *harder* work. You have to know things well to be able to reduce them…and that is true both in your own career and goals, and with any teams you might lead.

But simplicity often goes against our very nature - especially if you’re an ambitious and smart person. You may have all sorts of complicated ways of thinking about things, but you can’t allow that complication to become external in your communications or actions (what you need to do). Especially, in regard to your future or your goals. Simplify, Simplify.

So this edition will also be simple and to the point. It will challenge you, force you to think about applying simplicity to yourself, and at the end of it, you'll have something to hang your hat on, and some easier rowing ahead.
