Most people stop learning the day they walk off the graduation stage. So, if you are a perpetual learner or interested in becoming one, you are already ahead of 95% of the population. I wish that was an exaggeration, but I’m fairly certain I’m actually being generous.
While continuing education in some professions is mandatory, most do the bare minimum and go about their daily life. Sadly, the average physician likely isn’t pouring over the latest in medical journals, and your average marketing executive isn’t on top of the most cutting-edge tech.
It’s just the way the world works. Finding those who continue to learn is rare, and finding those who love to learn voraciously is exceptionally rare.
In my work, I’ve noticed that the best are always learning. Their methods aren’t always in one vein — some consume books, watch lectures, and/or use mentors or professional advisors — but it’s still there…even if you don’t always see or consider the many ways they’ve gotten this education.
Whether you’re looking at companies that have gone public or people who have built massive things, they structure learning in a way that keeps pushing them forward — and it gives them a constant advantage.
