The world isn’t static. It moves.
How you respond to that motion will determine where you go, and how the course plays out. Your business and work will change. Who you are is going to change. You will have choice points that can dramatically alter the direction of it all multiple times over the course of your life.
I never thought that it would be said as directly as a client who had just gotten rid of half his executive team. “Writing is rewriting,” he said, quoting Hemingway. “If you can’t evolve, there’s no space for you at my table.”
Editing your work, your business, and who you are as a leader and person is a constant process. You don’t leave the gate with perfection, you create better versions in iterations. This requires a very hard look at the things you might hold in pretty high esteem. You’ve got to look at that person in the mirror, that company that you revere, the colleagues you might like very much as people, and see where these things need to truly be to master the next version of progress.
