The thing is, for many high achievers, it can be embarrassing and a point of shame. I get DMs about it all the time. People feel like it’s a personal failure—maybe they don’t “love it enough” or something is wrong with them. That’s rarely the reason for high-performing people.

The truth is, no one talks about this stuff in public, so we’ll do it here.
Burnout for high achievers is not the dramatic collapse that most people imagine, but a gradual erosion that happens so subtly, most miss it until they are deep in it.
