There is a lot of wisdom in knowing who you are, and who you are not. Most people don’t have a firm grip on that…but knowing that clearly and strongly puts you in a position to make better decisions, and pull into places of strength.
You stop playing a character and start being yourself.
A lot of people are out there trying to be something they are not, and doing that, will hold back their career or business trajectory in significant ways. You erase the very things that could give you an incredible advantage or are honest enough to take away the weak points.
So maybe you’re the nerdy man or woman who loves a deep dive into the numbers but struggles with people management? When you know yourself, you can make better decisions to optimize everything around you—knowing what to hold onto (maybe those data reports) and what you can eventually outsource more of (the people). It’s a game of optimization, strengths, and energy—instead of struggle…and you move a lot faster.
Trying to be anything other than yourself, diminishes you.
Name a great titan of industry, and none of them tried to be anything but themselves—they leaned into that, and created incredible things.
Your uniqueness and even “odd” traits can give you a leg-up in your business, career, and your personal life—you just need to leverage them to your advantage. Fitting in might feel nice in the short term, but it’s a losing strategy for the distance.
Spend a moment today thinking about who *you* truly are…and who you’re not.
No apologies for it, and think about how to use it to your advantage.
"Trying to be anything other than yourself, diminishes you." <- that line is going to stick with me for a long time.
