Being an outsider can bring fantastic perks in business, but can be very hard in day-to-day life. You do things differently, you think differently, and your focus is often not the same as your peers.
It can be tempting for many people, to sacrifice their true nature, for some nice pats on the back, fitting in, and a theoretical card into the club.
The club of the average person.
But is this a club you want to join? The club where people’s lives are the same, they think the same, they value the same things, and their life often reflects that.
If you press fast forward on that initial “feel good” welcoming, what you find is that “fitting in” often begins to shape you in ways that pull you to the middle.
You begin to sacrifice elements of your true nature, and that has a cost.
And if you’re internally a high achiever or want more? Being pulled to the middle fuels frustration, irritation, and makes you doubt or second guess the best parts of yourself that *want* to push ahead and move differently.
Let that beast run.
Today’s Friday read is just a reminder that all those things that sometimes get you criticized, are within you for a reason—and even if leaning into them gets you some hassle today, just hang in there—it isn’t forever.
You’ll have some fantastic stories to tell one day.
Fantastic way to kick off a big Friday! Thank you for this 🙏
