In every professional sport I’ve encountered there is a practice called “playing the tape”—basically after a game or match, watching how the game played out—what worked, what didn’t, what can be improved, and what you can really dig into. It offers incredible insight as the individual or team takes on the next challenge.
In business, you have to move forward relentlessly, but it’s important to note that moving forward at its greatest, sometimes requires understanding past moves well. Dissecting the things that really worked or didn’t, and taking those in as a leader to make the next right moves. Taking leaps—or steps—in the right direction requires a breadth and depth of understanding.
Today is a great day to play some tape. Choose a moment that really worked (or didn’t) and think about how you can use that information for the next moves ahead. Look at where you (and/or your org) struggled, and where you shine. Let it contribute to making you greater.
You’ve got to keep pushing—so knowing what to really lean into or what to adjust, makes all the difference in nailing the games ahead. Play to win.
Excellent post today!
